Orleans Parish is home to one of the most important port and transportation hubs in the United States. The Port of New Orleans handles millions of tons of cargo each year, and rail transportation plays a critical role in moving goods between the port, distribution centers, and industries across the Gulf Coast.
Multiple freight rail lines run through Orleans Parish to support the movement of container shipments, bulk commodities, agricultural products, and industrial materials. These rail corridors connect the port with national rail networks that extend across the country.
Because of the significant amount of rail traffic moving through the region, trains frequently pass through crossings along major roadways in the parish. Long freight trains traveling to and from port facilities can sometimes block crossings while passing through urban areas.
In some situations, trains may slow down or temporarily stop near crossings due to rail congestion, switching operations, or coordination with other rail traffic in the area.
The BlockedTrax system detects trains at monitored crossings and sends notifications through the mobile app when a train approaches, stops, or clears the crossing.
These alerts help drivers make informed decisions about their route and avoid unnecessary delays caused by trains blocking roadways throughout the parish.
As the BlockedTrax monitoring network grows, additional crossings across Orleans Parish will be added to expand coverage and improve real-time train alerts for the community.
BlockedTrax, LLC - Patent Pending
BlockedTrax provides real-time train alerts and railroad crossing status updates to help drivers avoid delays. By monitoring train movement at key crossings, BlockedTrax notifies drivers when trains arrive, stop, and clear so they can plan alternate routes and avoid unnecessary delays
